Charitable Contributions

As a member of the health care industry, the well-being of our community is top of mind, and we believe in assisting nonprofits that make the healthy choice the easy choice in our state. BCBSNE has supported many organizations through proactive sponsorships and grant requests over the years. We focus on funding mission-driven programs promoting health and wellness.

BCBSNE provides charitable contributions to several specific, ongoing programs as well as to organizations making one-time grant requests.

Combined Health Agency Drive (CHAD)

CHAD is a local, donor-designation driven organization that has been raising funds for Nebraska’s premier health charities for more than 40 years. Twenty-one statewide health agencies, including Brain Injury Alliance Nebraska, Nebraska Kidney Association and more, fall under its umbrella. In 2020, BCBSNE is supporting CHAD with a $100,000 sponsorship.

Project Fit America

Project Fit America is a national agency that works with schools and communities to create opportunities for kids to be active, fit and healthy. The program focuses on communities with the greatest need; to qualify for the program, schools must have at least 50% of students receiving free or reduced lunch. In 2020, BCBSNE will sponsor physical education equipment and curriculum at its seventh Nebraska school.

Nebraska Lions Foundation Mobile Screening Unit

Since 1987, BCBSNE has been the sole sponsor of the Nebraska Lions Foundation Mobile Screening Unit, which provides vision, hearing, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings to communities across the state. The unit provided vision and hearing screenings to nearly 33,000 Nebraska students at 177 schools in 129 different communities in 2019.

Community Grants

Historically, BCBSNE has granted funding to organizations largely focused on improving access to care, providing mental health services and combating food insecurity. We have shifted our focus in the last few years to concentrate on what our state needs most in times of emergency following statewide flooding in 2019 and during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020.

Due to our COVID-19 community relief efforts, BCBSNE is canceling formal annual grant requests for 2020. We know countless nonprofits throughout the state provide much-needed services to our communities and require financial assistance to do so, but we feel shifting our concentration in this time of need will enable BCBSNE to make the greatest impact.
