Employee Engagement

Our employees are passionate community advocates who believe in sharing their time, talent and resources with those in need. We believe in supporting their efforts and provide coordinated volunteer opportunities and paid time off, so our teams can confidently step away from the office and help build a brighter future for our community.

Where We Serve

BCBSNE employees volunteering

United Way of the Midlands
BCBSNE has supported the United Way of the Midlands for more than 30 years and participates in a variety of the nonprofit’s annual activities. Since 2007, BCBSNE has consistently hosted a Top 10 annual employee giving campaign that raises approximately $500,000 each year through company-matched fundraising activities. Funds raised through the campaign benefit a number of agencies under the United Way umbrella.

Adopt-a-School Partnership
We’re proud to support students, faculty and staff at Conestoga Magnet Elementary School through our Adopt-a-School partnership. From hosting an annual back-to-school supply drive to inviting students to our building for caroling around the holidays, employees engage with and support students in a variety of ways.

Blue Cross employees ringing bells for the Salvation Army

Salvation Army
Volunteering to ring bells for the Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign is a time-honored BCBSNE holiday tradition. Additionally, our teams support the nonprofit’s Adopt-a-Family program, purchasing gifts for those in need annually.

American Red Cross Blood Drives
Our employees give more than their time and talent to the community – they also make life-saving blood donations. Each quarter, we host the American Red Cross at Blue Cross Centre for an onsite blood drive, making it convenient for employees to take a few minutes out of their workday to donate.

National Walk @ Lunch Day
Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans across the nation host National Walk @ Lunch Day every April to encourage people to spend 30 minutes a day focused on their well-being. The event also supports the community; for every individual that registers, BCBSNE donates $1 to Special Olympics Nebraska, and for every organization, BCBSNE donates $20.

Active Events
BCBSNE sponsors a number of active events, such as the Boys Town Memorial Day Run and Omaha Take Steps, that get the community moving and raise awareness and funds for local nonprofits. We encourage employees to represent our company by participating and provide a one-time stipend to help cover the cost of registration fees that aren’t otherwise covered by our sponsorship.
