Dr. Sorensen served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Regional West Health Services and Regional West Medical Center September 2000 to January 2015. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, Omaha, and a master's degree in administrative medicine from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He completed an internal medicine residency at Denver's Presbyterian Medical Center and is a board-certified internal medicine physician.

With two colleagues, Dr. Sorensen founded an internal medicine group practice in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1976. In addition to his medical practice, he later served as medical director for Regional Care, Inc., where he helped develop a provider network and regional health plan.

He is a member of the American College of Physician Executives, the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine and the American College of Healthcare Executives, and serves on the Board of Directors for Poudre Valley Health System in Fort Collins, Colorado.
