MedsYourWay-Retail GLP-1 Enhancement
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) is enhancing the MedsYourWay-Retail program by adding GLP-1 medications to the existing cash wrap solution, effective Jan. 1, 2027. This enhancement helps members access lower-cost pricing for high-cost GLP-1 medications by automatically applying the lowest available discount price at the pharmacy counter.
The program is built into the pharmacy experience, so members do not need to enroll, present a separate discount card or take additional action. It also requires no group election for fully insured or level-funded groups; ASO groups will be automatically included but may opt out if desired.
Please note: This program is not available to ASO clients with the BCBSNE ASO Weight Management GLP-1 program. MedsYourWay-Retail is not available at all pharmacies or in all states but is available at most large retail pharmacies.
How it works
When a member fills a GLP-1 prescription, the pharmacy submits the claim as usual. If the medication is not covered by insurance, MedsYourWay-Retail then compares the available pricing among multiple discount cards and applies the lowest available option at point of sale, so the member pays the lowest available price at the pharmacy counter.
Coverage scenario
If the GLP-1 medication is not covered |
| MedsYourWay applies the lowest available cash price. The member is responsible for the full cost, and the amount does not apply to deductibles or accumulators. |
If GLP-1s are covered for weight loss |
| The pharmacy will submit claims as they do today, and the member will be responsible for their appropriate cost share. All costs paid by the member will apply to their accumulators. |
Financial and reporting notes
- There is no additional participation cost for groups or members.
- When processed as cash pricing, amounts do not count toward deductibles or accumulators.
