How it works

Step 1

Nebraska high schools fill out a short application form. In a few words, tell us how we can help you help your community.

Step 2

We’ll select up to 100 schools each year, and mail you a customized Team Spirit sign you’ll be proud to hang at your field or gym.

Step 3

Send us a great photo of the sign on display at your facility, and we’ll send you a $500 grant to support health and well-being at your school or in your community.

Step 4

One school will receive an extra $5,000 grant to support health and well-being based on creativity, feasibility and potential impact.

What does the home team mean to us?

It’s about more than
wins and losses.

It’s Friday nights under the lights, shoulder to shoulder with the people who know us best.

It’s finding our place in something bigger than ourselves.

Pride in a way of life.

Claiming our role in a story spanning generations.

On the court, field, or track,
In the pool, stage, or weight room,

What happens there inspires us,
rallies communities,
changes lives.

As Nebraska’s home team for health since 1939, we know what this means to Nebraskans.

That’s why we’re there in the stands with you, lifting our voices for the health and flourishing of every home team and hometown.

FAQs

How are schools selected each year?

We try to find the right blend of size, geography, demographics, and other factors. We also review every application and reward clear-eyed, impactful plans for putting our grant to work. Of the 300+ high schools in Nebraska, we currently intend to cycle through 100 each year. For this reason, schools may only receive a grant once every three years.

What's the customized Team Spirit sign like?

Signs are 8 ft. (96 in.) wide and 4 ft. (48 in.) tall, made of a sturdy, weatherproof vinyl so you can choose to place it inside or outside. Metal grommets are included for easy hanging. As part of your application, you'll tell us your school nickname. We'll print that onto your customized sign so you can hang it proudly at your athletic field.

Example of Team Spirit Sign. 8 ft. by 4 ft.

Which schools are eligible?

Any Nebraska school is eligible that offers grades 9+ and has an athletics program.

When will grant awards be announced?

Every applicant will get an email in early August with decisions for the $500 Health and Well-being Grant. The $5,000 Grant will be announced in November.

What can grant funds be used for?

Though Healthy Home Team is anchored in athletics, communities know their own challenges and opportunities best. Funds may be used for any purpose that, at the discretion of school leadership, improves well-being at your school or in your community. This could include extracurricular activities, health programs, sports equipment, community programming or other innovative ideas.

What if I have other questions or a unique situation?

We'd love to work through it with you. Email us at HealthyHomeTeam@NebraskaBlue.com.

We can give health a home field advantage in Nebraska.
