BlueCard®: How to Identify International Members

Policy Number: GP-X-080

Last Updated: July 19, 2022

Occasionally, you may see ID cards from members of international Blue Plans, which include the following:

  • BlueCross BlueShield of Costa Rica
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Uruguay
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Panama
  • BlueCross BlueShield of the U.S. Virgin Islands

These Plans’ ID cards will also contain three-character prefixes. Please treat these members the same as domestic Blue Plan members (e.g., do not collect any payment from the member beyond cost-sharing amounts, such as deductible, coinsurance and copayments).
