Out-of-State Networks
Many BCBSNE members have access to a national network called the BlueCard® Program*. If Blue members live or travel outside of Nebraska, they may take their health care benefits with them. The BlueCard Program gives members access to doctors and hospitals almost everywhere within the United States, including both urban and rural areas.
*Check your plan documents to determine if your network includes BlueCard.
Outside of the United States, members have access to doctors and hospitals around the world through the Blue Cross Blue Shield Global® Core Program.

Total Care
Make sure your providers know you, so you get the highest quality care in the right place and the right time, keep costs down and achieve better health. With good primary care at the center, Total Care providers are committed to coordinating total patient care – emphasizing prevention and wellness and helping better manage chronic conditions. These providers are recognized for quality and incentivized by BCBSNE to keep you well.
Our provider directory is subject to change without notice. Providers are periodically added or deleted. Prior to receiving services, ask your health care provider if she or he is in the network shown on your Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska member ID card, or you may call the Member Services number on the back of your ID card. View this flier to learn how to find your network name on your card.
If your doctor refers you to a specialist, ask the specialist if he or she is in the network shown on your ID card, or call the Member Services number on the back of your ID card.
It is always your choice when deciding which health care provider to use. If you receive services from an out-of-network provider, you will be responsible for any costs over the out-of-network rate set by the local Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan. This amount is in excess of what BCBSNE allows for the services. When using an in-network provider, this amount is listed as the discount on your Explanation of Benefits statement. Out-of-network providers are not contractually obligated to write-off these amounts and can directly bill you.
If you need assistance in finding an in-network provider, please call our Member Services department. In rare circumstances, an out-of-network provider may be the only option in your area for certain services. In these instances, a Case Specific Rate Negotiation (CSRN) process may be available to you upon review. With a CSRN, BCBSNE attempts to negotiate an agreement with the out-of-network provider to provide in-network level benefits.
Also, the selection of an in-network hospital does not guarantee that providers like anesthesiologists, radiologists, pathologists and emergency room personnel are in-network providers. If you receive care at an in-network hospital, be sure to ask about obtaining these services from in-network providers in order to receive the maximum possible benefits.
